Building Routines that Stick – A Four Part Series

In this four part series written by Occupational Therapist Erin Garrison,  you will learn how to teach your child to follow a daily routine for the not so fun, but necessary, daily living activities like getting dressed, brushing their teeth, bathing, and going to bed.

The best part: Your child can learn to follow routines by playing!

Part 1: Learn the “First/Then” Technique

This technique is especially useful when you need your child to do something now! Teach this skill when time is not an issue and it will come in handy when crunch time happens.

Part 2: Multi-Step Free Choice Schedules

This tool helps give more structure and can help decrease anxiety for children who like to know what to expect, but also like to control the situation.

Part 3: Routine Play

Learn to design parent selected playful activities in a parent directed sequence to increase creative play, build motor skills, and improve social interaction while learning how to follow routines.

Part 4: Putting It All Together for Happy Mornings and Calm Bedtimes

In part 4 learn how all your hard work is going to translate into your child completing their morning and night time routines; with less whining, nagging, and battles.
