Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month, a time to highlight acceptance and understanding of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to recognize the challenges that children with ASD and their families face.

At Connect the Dots, we believe in the importance of providing inclusive support for children and their families to help them reach their highest potential.

Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, behavior and development.

Children with ASD may have difficulty understanding social cues, expressing their emotions, and developing language skills. They may also have sensory processing issues that can make everyday activities challenging.

That’s where our team of therapists comes in. Our focus is on collaborating with families of children with ASD to create personalized therapy plans that target their specific challenges and aim to help them achieve their desired outcomes.  Our approach is play-bsaed and always inclusive, focusing on the strengths of each child and using evidence-based strategies to build skills in the clinic, at home and beyond!

One of the benefits of therapy for children with ASD is that it can improve their communication and social skills. Through play-based therapy sessions, our therapists help children learn how to communicate effectively, develop relationships with others, and understand social situations.

We also work on developing fine and gross motor skills to help children participate in daily activities with greater ease and confidence.

Our team of occupational therapists can assist children with ASD who may be impacted by sensory processing disorder in their daily activities such as feeding (picky eating) and self-care (dressing/bathing/toileting).

In addition to supporting children, we also provide support for their families. Raising a child with ASD can be challenging, and we understand the importance of offering tools, resources, and information to help families navigate the journey. Our therapists work closely with families to provide education and support, and to help them build a strong network of community resources.

If you have concerns about your child’s development, it’s important to seek guidance from your pediatrician. While a formal diagnosis is not necessary to begin therapy at Connect the Dots, it’s important to discuss your concerns with your child’s healthcare professional to determine the best course of action.

Autism Awareness Month is a reminder of the importance of providing inclusive support for children with ASD and their families.

At Connect the Dots, we are dedicated to helping children with ASD reach their highest potential and providing support for their families along the journey. If you have any questions about our services, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
