Gloria experiences the challenges of two life altering syndromes: Cardio Facio Cutaneous Syndrome and Infantile Spasms/West Syndrome. Her challenges can best be described as hypotonic cerebral palsy combined with moderate traits from the autism spectrum.

Gloria had backslid after losing outpatient therapy in the Roseburg area. Within 3 weeks of Connect the Dots therapy, Gloria had returned to 3-4 word utterance rather than single word responses. Six weeks after returning to therapy with Connect the Dots during bath time Gloria belted out a 9 word sentence all on her own combining some of the phrases that were being elicited while at therapy (Her previous record was 5 words). Gloria continues to grow her vocabulary and ability to formulate sentences adding a word or so a month to her average sentence length.

On the occupational therapy side, we have seen Gloria’s sensitivity decrease significantly, and her ability to breathe through sensory overload situations has improved because of the strategies she has learned at Connect the Dots and the novel physical experiences she has during therapy. Gloria is now able to help get herself dressed and undressed much more effectively. One of the biggest improvements from Connect the Dots therapy is her desensitization of her mouth from the techniques we learned. The desensitizing of her mouth allowed us to more effectively brush her teeth.

Gloria even engaged in the YMCA’s kids play hours for the first time. Her experiences at Connect the Dots gave her the determination to crawl around and bounce with the other kids playing. I see Gloria’s confidence increasing, and her willingness and ability to engage with the kids her age improving thanks to Connect the Dots.
