Story of Elif, 14 months

When it was time to begin solid foods, we thought our little Elif just didn’t like the rice cereal recommended as a first food. So we tried lots of other foods, and in all different forms: solid, mushy, puree and homemade puree. Everything we gave him made him gag. We spoke to our pediatrician and he referred us to Connect the Dots.

We began sessions with Connect the Dots; right away we were very relieved to learn that Elif seemed to merely have an overly sensitive body which made swallowing feel unsafe to him. Every Occupational Therapist we worked with was calm, kind and patient. This was very important because Elif tended to take a good portion of the session getting comfortable with the room and who we were working with for the day. After a few sessions, we began working with Rachael. She was extremely knowledgeable about infant swallowing difficulties. Elif really took off and began making tons of progress. We couldn’t be more thankful for her endurance of early morning peanut butter, or yogurt, baths resulting from allowing Elif to explore food naturally.

From the very first phone call setting up appointments to the very last session, we had the best experience we could have imagined. Thank you so much, Connect the Dots for being so welcoming, understanding and; for helping us help Elif with kind hearts and without judgment. And lastly, thank you for genuinely caring about Elif and his progress, we will never forget everything you helped him achieve!

Sincerely,

Annalise and Joseph Koffa
