Feeding Evaluation Checklist
Preparing for an evaluation
When coming to a feeding evaluation, please bring your child hungry (NOT STARVING), this will provide a typical feeding experience. Food/drink should be items your child prefers. Every child is at a different stage in the eating process.
For the evaluation, please bring the items listed below, which will provide the best experience for your child.
- Any adaptive utensils, cups, or plates that your child uses during mealtimes.
- If bottle-feeding, please bring in the preferred bottle and nipples that you use along with the contents of the bottle.
- Bring a picture of your child’s current highchair or seating arrangement to show your evaluating therapist.
- If nursing, bring boppy or items that help support your child’s feeding needs.
- If drinking from a cup, bring in a drink your child prefers with the cup they use at home.
- If over 15 months old, two different types of finger foods and something your child can spear with a fork. We are interested in observing your child’s oral motor skills, therefore, preferred foods.
- Any tool your child uses to calm (pacifier, blanket, stuffed animal, etc.)
- Think of your child's current eating habits and preferences. Your therapist will be interested in your child’s food preferences - tastes (sweet, salty, sour, bitter, umami) as well as textures that your child prefers (crunchy, chewing, creamy, chunky)
- Please note we have very minimal food options at Connect the Dots.
